Transmission and Communications services
The Highways Agency has a bespoke communications network which services the wide variety of roadside equipment installed throughout the UK's motorways network. This system operates the HA's own proprietary National Motorway Communications Systems protocol (NMCS) and includes communications equipment at purpose built transmission stations, and in cabinets at the roadside. Peek has a team of engineers qualified in the maintenance and support of this equipment. This team carries our routine and preventative maintenance, as well as first line fault response. These functions activities ensure that the integrity of the communications network is maintained at all times.
Peek work with the Highways Agency and with the Managing Agent Contractors to provide these services. Peek also work with DBFO and major scheme contractors, to provide consultative design and technical services.
Motorway communications maintenance services are provided by Peek in the Highways Agency Area 12, working in partnership with CWSP to provide managed routine maintenance for the devices in the region, whilst also supporting in-service fault diagnosis and on-site repair when equipment fails when in service. Management of HA assets and spares is also undertaken ensuring timely return of faulty 'red label' components for repair or disposal at the HA's main store in Yate.
All works undertaken are completed to the associated Health & Safety and Quality standards.
Installation, commissioning and testing of outstation equipment
Peek is one of the Highways Agency's preferred framework contactors for the installation and commissioning of roadside equipment. We have a dedicated team of engineers who provide these services, including the testing and configuration of the cable infrastructure, as well as the commissioning of equipment in the roadside cabinets.
The activities cover all aspects of NMCS2 installation and commissioning to include MIDAS, NMCS2 outstation equipment, signals and drivers, PSUs, Matrix Indicators, CCTV, Emergency Roadside Telephones/responders, and other communications equipment.
There is extensive experience within Peek gained over many years of undertaking Motorway schemes as sub-contractor to the main contracting agent, or as Principal Contractor with CDM responsibility.
